About Karis Johns, LMFT
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist who has had the privilege of serving Western Wisconsin in private psychotherapy practice for nearly ten years. It has also been a source of great meaning and purpose to offer couple, family and individual therapeutic support with the creation of my own practice in 2019 called Heartfelt Therapy. As times have changed, I am additionally called to stretch and grow as a clinician. Recently I have begun sharing my therapeutic perspectives in more creative ways using technology and sharing platforms, and I excitedly anticipate more additions to come.
I enjoy teaching people how to communicate using heart-centered awareness as their home base. From this base, words soften, empower, and connect us to others in a way that heals. Relationships flourish. Interpersonal growth happens.
I am a clinician who passionately works to further her understanding of the role of trauma in mental health concerns. I am currently training in Dr. Gabor Mate's the Compassionate Inquiry and support and appreciate his work.
I use and appreciate the principles of Nonviolent Communication (Marshall Rosenberg) for supporting couple communication, interpersonal effectiveness and conflict resolution.
I am skilled at integrating facets of narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral strategies, interpersonal psychotherapy, mindfulness-based therapy and stress reduction, insight-oriented and somatic psychotherapy into my clinical work.
I encourage the cultivation of practices such as self-compassion, self-care, and gratitude for clients who wish to connect with themselves and their innate strengths and use these as the fuel for personal growth.
